The former John Peer factory on Bath Road in Brislington, Bristol, has been a longstanding derelict site, attracting issues such as vandalism and graffiti, fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour. The site was recently acquired with the aim of redeveloping the site into affordable housing. Weaver Demolition commenced demolition of the abandoned factory towards the end of 2024 and the project took 7 weeks to complete.

Project Overview

The demolition of the former factory was a significant undertaking aimed at clearing the site for the future development of new housing.

The demolition process involved several key steps:

  • Site Preparation: Prior to demolition, preparatory works were initiated, which included securing the site, conducting necessary surveys and managing on-site ecological issues.
  • Structural Demolition: The main demolition phase involved the careful dismantling of the factory structure. Given the building’s size and proximity to other properties, this required meticulous planning to ensure safety and to minimise disruption to the surrounding area.
  • Debris Clearance: Following the demolition, the site was cleared to prepare the land for subsequent development and to address any environmental concerns associated with the remnants of the old structure.
