The demolition of buildings spanned a 2-acre site and partition works were carried between remaining live hospital areas and areas to be demolished.
In full, the work involved the strip-out of licensed and non-licenced asbestos, the draining down and purging of all mechanical systems, building soft-strip works, the de-contamination of circa 800 meters of underground service ducts, the removal of basements, service trenches and ducts, and drainage diversion with all mapping, depth and manhole locations identified.
All hardcore arisings were crushed on-site and re-used for the formation of levels and formation of piling mat with CBR testing used check cand approve conformity of compaction.
Structural alterations and openings also had to be considered and led the formation of openings to re-model the hospital’s internal layout, with openings ranging in size from 900mm to over 4m wide.
Weaver Demolition delivered the complete solution to prepare the site to enable the construction of a specialist cancer research unit within the Bath RUH hospital site.
