The project required careful coordination to ensure works were completed safely and efficiently within a constrained urban setting, while maintaining access and minimising disruption to one of London’s key arterial routes.
Project Requirements
Throughout the works, Weaver implemented stringent traffic management measures to protect the live A40 corridor, coordinating closely with the local highways authority to avoid disruption to traffic and neighbouring businesses.
Environmental Impact
Sustainability was a major focus of this project. Over 14,000 tonnes of concrete arising from the demolition were crushed and recycled on site to create usable aggregate. This eliminated the need for approximately 1,500 lorry movements, which would otherwise have been required to transport the material off site for disposal and bring in new aggregate.
By reusing this material within the project, Weaver not only reduced the environmental impact and carbon footprint of the works, but also helped the client achieve significant cost and programme efficiencies.
Key Benefits to the Client
Project Summary
This project demonstrated Weaver Demolition’s ability to manage technically demanding demolition and remediation works within a highly constrained, urban environment. By combining careful planning, sustainable working practices, and a collaborative approach with the client and local authorities, Weaver successfully delivered a cleared and environmentally verified site ready for redevelopment into a new data centre.
